Noah's Flood

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Why did God send the flood?
  2. Was Noah's flood was world wide?
  3. What about Genesis 6:17, 7:19-23 and I Peter 3:20?

1) Why did God send the flood? God sent the flood because of the fallen angels that left heaven and came to earth to have children with the daughters of Adam and Eve. The offspring of this union were the Nephilim or giants (Genesis 6:1-4 and Jude v6). This was an attempt by Satan to pollute the blood line of Adam and Eve which is the same blood line that Jesus Christ came from (Luke 3:23-38). You can find more information on this in our Days of Noah study.

Genesis 6:1-4
V1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,
V2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
V3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
V4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
(KJV)

Jude 1:6
V6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, He hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.

2) Was Noah's flood was world wide? I do not believe Noah's flood was world wide. I feel that way because of the reason God sent the flood in the first place. See question one. Satan sent his fallen angels that follow him to this earth to have children with the daughters of Eve. It was only those people that Satan was interested in and they were still confined to a small area on the earth at that time because God had not scattered Israel yet. Satan really did not care about the rest of the people on the earth yet as his main goal was to stop the birth of Jesus Christ. Thank God he failed! You can find more information on this in our Days of Noah study.

3) What about Genesis 6:17, 7:19-23 and I Peter 3:20? God did not have to flood the whole earth because the people that He wanted to destroy were confined to a small area. God had to stop the fallen angels and their offspring, the Nephilim. The Bible is about Adam and Eve and their descendants, the last one being Jesus Christ and the people that they came in contact with. I know that there is much more to the Bible than that but that is how the story unfolds. At the time of the flood, the descendants of Adam and Eve occupied a very small part of the earth so their was no need to flood the whole earth.
