Abortion Bible Study

Abortion is legal according to mankinds law but what about God's? The Bible teaches us that life begins at conception. That if some one hurts a pregnant woman and she gives birth but she and the new born baby are ok, the person that hurt her is to be fined. If the woman or new born baby die, the person that hurt her must die as well. What about a womans right in choosing to have an abortion? You are out of luck because God does not believe in a womans right to have an abortion. That is mankinds law, not God's. In God's law, having an abortion falls into the class of premeditated murder.

We are going to start our abortion Bible study in the Gospel of Luke. The angel Gabriel was sent by God to tell Mary that she is going to have a Son and to call His name Jesus. We are going to pick up the conversation with Mary asking how will this happen.

Luke 1:34-42

V34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?

The marriage of Mary and Joseph had not taken place yet and Mary is asking Gabriel how is she going to have a son when she is still a virgin. Your documentation can be found in Luke 1:26-27 and Matthew 1:18-21

V35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy Thing Which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
V36 And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.

Elisabeth is six months pregnant with a son who will be named John. In time her son will be better known as John the Baptist. The fact that Elisabeth is six months pregnant is important information for our abortion Bible study, so keep this in mind.

V37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.

This is still the angel Gabriel speaking. God can do anything to anyone at any time He so desires. We are all God's children and as it is written in Ezekiel 18:4 all souls are His. One thing that God will not do is force any one to love Him. If it's not real love that comes from your heart, God does not want it. We can not con God in anything we do. For the people that love the Lord and follow Him, this verse should build up your trust and faith in Him. If you love the Lord and serve Him, there is nothing that He can not do for you. He may not give us everything we want but He does give us everything we need. Nothing shall be impossible.

V38 And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.

What a fantastic example of faith by Mary. She asked the angel Gabriel how this was going to happen, he told her and she believed him. For me, this is one of the greatest examples of faith in God's Word. Before Gabriel went to talk to Mary, he was sent by God to talk to Zacharias who is the husband of Elisabeth. Zacharias had no faith in what Gabriel told him and he paid the price for it. You can read that in Luke 1:5-22 Do not ever tell me that women are weak in the Lord and should not be working for Him. Some of the greatest servants of the Lord are women.

V39 And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda;
V40 And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth.

Mary had this very exciting news and went to tell her cousin Elisabeth.

Now put your thinking caps on because this next verse is why we are here.

V41 And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:

Leaped 4640 skirtao (skeer-tah'-o); akin to skairo (to skip); to jump, i.e. sympathetically move (as the quickening of a fetus).

Here we have the very first teaching by Jesus Christ and that is life begins at conception. Some people claim that this does not prove that life begins at conception. They say that the only reason John leaped in Elisabeth's womb is because he was a prophet and the baby in Mary's womb was Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God. The truth is Jesus Christ set the example that all Christians are to follow. Their never has been nor will their ever be a better person born of women to teach us that life begins at conception than Jesus Christ Himself.

V42 And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.

As we read in verse 41 Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and now she is telling us the unborn baby in Mary's womb is a blessing. Now Jesus Christ is a blessing to all that believe in Him but don't think for one minute that other unborn babies are not a blessing. As we are told in Revelation 4:11 God created all things for His pleasure. The very first thing God told mankind to do after He created us is to be fruitful and multiply. You can read that in Genesis 1:27-28 Having a baby is a blessing from God. Having an abortion is doing the will of Satan.

Now let us go to the Old Testament and see what God's law has to say about the life of a pregnant woman and her unborn baby.

Exodus 21:22-25

V22 If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.

Hurt 5062 nagaph (naw-gaf'); a primitive root; to push, gore, defeat, stub (the toe), inflict (a disease).

With Child 2030 hareh (haw-reh'); or hariy (Hosea 14:1) (haw-ree'); from 2029; pregnant.
2029 harah (haw-raw'); a primitive root; to be (or become) pregnant, conceive (literally or figuratively).

Her Fruit 3206 yeled (yeh'-led); from 3205; something born, i.e. a lad or offspring: -boy, child, fruit, son, young man (one).
3205 yalad (yaw-lad'); a primitive root; to bear young; causatively, to beget; medically, to act as midwife; specifically, to show lineage.

Mischief 611 'acown (aws-sone'); of uncertain derivation; hurt.

Punished 6064 `anash (aw-nash'); a primitive root; properly, to urge; by implication, to inflict a penalty, specifically, to fine.

Here we have an example of men fighting and a pregnant woman getting hurt during the fight. Because of this, the woman goes into labor and gives birth to her baby. If the woman and the new born baby are ok, the husband shall fine the man that hurt the pregnant woman.

V23 And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,
V24 Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,
V25 Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

If the woman and the new born baby are not ok, then the punishment is more severe. If the woman or the new born baby die, the man that hurt the woman must die as well.

What about a womans right in choosing to have an abortion? Mankinds law tells us it's ok so it must be ok with God, right? Wrong! As we shall see from God's law, an abortion falls into the class of premeditated murder.

We are going to take a look at God's law on murder from Deuteronomy 19:11-13 In God's law, there is a very big difference in killing some one and murdering them. If you would like to know more about this, you can read our study on Capital Punishment.

Deuteronomy 19:11-13

V11 But if any man hate his neighbour, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and smite him mortally that he die, and fleeth into one of these cities:
V12 Then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him thence, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.

If a person hates some one and makes plans on rising up against them to smite them mortally then does it, that is murder according to God's law. So, lets look at a woman that wants an abortion. Does she hate her unborn baby? Yes. If she did not hate her unborn baby, she would give birth and either keep the new born baby or put him or her up for adoption. Does this woman premeditate the murder of her unborn baby? Yes. When the pregnant woman makes plans to have an abortion, that is premeditation. If she follows through with her plans to have an abortion, that is murder according to God's law. Obviously the doctor that performed the abortion committed murder as well. God's law tells us that a murderer must be put to death. NOTE: I am not telling any person to take the law into their own hands. If you want to make changes in the laws of this country, vote in the next election for people who have the same views as you do. If your a Christian, your views should be the same as God's.

V13 Thine eye shall not pity him, but thou shalt put away the guilt of innocent blood from Israel, that it may go well with thee.

Do you think a unborn baby has innocent blood? What sin has that unborn baby committed? A unborn baby being murdered is innocent blood being shed. In Numbers 35:33-34 it tells us that innocent blood being shed defiles the land. Some may say this law is only for the children of Israel. In our study on the Children of Israel, you will find out that the United States are part of the children of Israel.

In this Bible study on abortion we have learned that life begins at conception. That is the very first lesson that Jesus Christ taught us. We also learned that if some one hurts a pregnant woman, that person is to be fined. If the pregnant woman or the new born baby die, the person that hurt them is to be killed. Another thing we learned is that abortion falls into the class of premeditated murder. If you are a woman that has had an abortion, you need to repent of your sin to God, in the name of Jesus Christ. If your a woman thinking about having an abortion, please don't do it. If you do not want to keep the new born baby, you can always put him or her up for adoption.
