Dinosaurs

Frequently Asked Question

  1. Does the Bible mention dinosaurs?

1) Does the Bible mention dinosaurs? Yes. In Job 40:15-24 it talks about behemoth. Some say that this is talking about the hippopotamus but when you read the description of behemoth, you will see that it can not be the hippopotamus. We read that the behemoth moved his tail like a cedar which is a large tree. A hippos tail is very small. I believe that behemoth is the brontosaurus dinosaur which was close to 100 feet in length. We read that God said that He created behemoth with us which causes some to doubt God's Word because we do not see dinosaurs walking around today. But what they don't know is that there was a earth age before this one were we lived with God in our spiritual bodies and it is this earth age that God is referring to. For more information on this, see our study on the Three World Ages. In Job 41:1-34 their is another animal talked about and that is leviathan. Leviathan is not a dinosaur but a crocodile which does live in this earth age. God likens Himself to behemoth and Satan is likened to leviathan in Job 40:15 to 41:34

Job 40:15-19
V15 Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.
V16 Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly.
V17 He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together.
V18 His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron.
V19 He is the chief of the ways of God: He That made him can make His sword to approach unto him.
